Eating Disorders & Body Image Concerns

Difficulties with body image and eating can affect both physical and emotional well-being. These concerns can include Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), Bulimia Nervosa, Orthorexia, Binge Eating Disorder (BED) or general dissatisfaction with appearance and reduced self-confidence.

Such challenges can arise from a combination of factors, including trauma, experiences of bullying, pressures from competitive sports, or social media influences.

At our clinic, we take a holistic approach, exploring the underlying causes and individual history behind these concerns. We often work collaboratively with other health professionals, such as GPs, Dieticians, or medical specialists, which can be particularly important in cases where physical health is impacted.

Treatment is tailored to each individual and may include psychoeducation, exposure therapy or experiments to reduce body checking or avoidance, support with reducing compensatory behaviours such as purging, and evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, and EMDR.

The goal is to help clients build a healthier relationship with their body, reduce distressing thoughts and behaviours, and improve overall confidence and well-being.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work, the Dharug people, and the Traditional Custians of the greater Sydney region, the Eora Nation. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past, present, and emerging.
