Please contact the clinic if you cannot find an answer to your question.
No, it’s not compulsory to have a MHCP to see a psychologist. However, if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate, it must be arranged with your GP before your appointment.
You can contact the clinic to discuss your circumstances and eligibility. If you meet the criteria, you’ll be asked to complete some additional forms to help submit the WDO application.
This depends on your personal circumstances, therapeutic goals, and what you’re hoping to gain from therapy. Some individuals prefer ongoing therapy as a safe space for reflection, while others choose to stay within the 6–10 sessions available under a MHCP each year. Your goals and expectations are discussed early on to create a clear plan moving forward.
EMDR therapy is more trauma-focused, as it involves recalling distressing memories to process and reduce their emotional impact. Before starting EMDR, suitability will be discussed in your initial sessions through a detailed intake assessment, relevant questionnaires, and by helping you build coping strategies to manage any emotions that may arise between sessions.
It’s really a matter of personal preference, as the content and approach of therapy remain the same. Sessions are available via Zoom, telephone, or in person at the Bankstown clinic. Some clients prefer the connection of in-person therapy, while others value the convenience of online sessions.
Please note: EMDR sessions are only offered via Zoom or in person (not by phone).
You know yourself best. You might notice changes in your thinking, mood, or behaviour — such as difficulty regulating emotions, increased avoidance, or feeling unlike yourself. You also don't need to wait until things get worse or something has happened in your life to be able to seek therapy. It can also be a proactive step toward self-awareness and growth. You can discuss your concerns with your GP or contact the clinic directly to talk through your options.
This depends on your goals and the focus of therapy. At times, you may receive practical tools or exercises to use between sessions. Other times, the work may be more reflective, encouraging you to explore insights or patterns that arise. Each approach is tailored to your needs.
Bulk billing is not currently available. However, the clinic is a registered provider of the You In Mind Program, which offers up to 12–18 free sessions for eligible individuals. Please contact the clinic to learn more about this program.
You’ll need to check directly with your health fund to confirm whether psychology sessions are covered under your policy. If covered, you’ll receive an invoice after your session that you can submit to your fund for reimbursement.
